TiSable Beach: A Hidden Gem to Discover in Saint-Joseph

TiSable Beach Hike:

It’s vacation time, so if you’re looking for an easy hike with the kids, I recommend the fishermen’s trail in the wild south, which starts at the intersection of Rue Émile Labonne and Boulevard Lenepveu in the town of Saint-Joseph, then heads west.

This majestic trail runs along the coast, hugging the cliffside all the way to the famous Ti Sable beach, known as one of the most beautiful black-sand beaches in La Réunion.

But be careful—camping and swimming are prohibited here, and I was surprised by how much larger waves than the others swallowed me up to my thighs. Pay close attention and never leave your child unsupervised.

⚠️ Dangerous: Cliffside trail | Avoid this hike during heavy swell

🚸 Suitable for hikers of all levels

About TiSable Beach:

Ti Sable is a small black-sand beach that looks like a cove beside a cliff—perfect for relaxing, picnicking, taking photos, tossing a ball or casting a fishing line, or doing absolutely nothing 😉

Little known to tourists or even locals (except for those from Saint-Joseph and the surrounding area), this natural site’s width depends on the tides. A beautiful trail lets you stroll along the coast (south side), admiring the ocean from different angles along the cliffs.

Access to Ti Sable beach:

By car:

Take the RN2 from the north, leave Manapany on your right, and continue toward the roundabout. Go a few dozen meters further (opposite Burger King) and turn right. Drive a few hundred meters and park your vehicle at the skate park. You are about 200 m from Ti Sable beach. Walk along the skate park and follow the path leading to the sea.

Walking:

The St. Joseph coastal path was recently developed in the area. For example, it allows you to reach Ti Sable from the St. Joseph Cemetery.
