After our stay in Lima and then Cusco, we decided to cross the land border into Bolivia. We chose the Peru Hop &#8211; Bolivia Hop company to travel from Cusco to La Paz, and we were very happy with it! We stopped in Puno (Peru), then Copacabana (Bolivia), made a small detour to Isla del Sol, then La Paz, and finally the Salar de Uyuni and South L\u00edpez. <\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\udccd3 stopover points<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83c\udfdd\ufe0f 2 islands<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\uddd3\ufe0f11 days on site<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83c\udfdc\ufe0f3 days and 2 nights in the desert<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\ude8d 1 day and 2 nights on the bus<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83e\udd7e 19,306+ steps<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83e\udd99around ten different animal species<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83e\udd17 5 wonderful encounters<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83c\udf82 One more year older!<\/span><\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=W4ldGG3bbUI<\/div><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><span>Stop 1: Border crossing in Copacabana and Isla del Sol<\/span><\/span><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\ude8cThe Peru\/Bolivia Hop buses are very comfortable, and we especially liked being able to pause the trip at each stop for as long as we wanted. Crossing the land border was very easy: the bus dropped us at the Peruvian immigration office for our exit stamp. Then we walked for 5 minutes and went to the Bolivian immigration office, which stamped us in without asking any questions (how lucky to have a French passport!). The bus picked us up and then took us to Copacabana, a small Bolivian village on the shores of Lake Titicaca. We stayed at the <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hotels.com\/affiliates\/hotel-utama-copacabana-bolivie.oHFYgTk\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u><span>Hotel Utama<\/span><\/u><\/a><span>, which we recommend. The town is charming and the people are quite friendly\u2014you\u2019ll meet plenty of backpackers there! We also recommend visiting the church (free entry), which has very distinctive architecture!<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83c\udfdd\ufe0f We visited Isla del Sol on our own, about an hour and a half by boat from Copacabana. Head straight to the pier to buy a round-trip ticket; departure is at 8:30 AM, and we chose the return at 4:00 PM. Many travelers spend a night on the island.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>We really enjoyed the island\u2014it offers an incredible view over Lake Titicaca, which feels as endless as the ocean. The island\u2019s residents are very kind too, and we have great memories of this stop.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83c\udf92After three days in Copacabana, we grabbed our backpacks again and headed to La Paz by bus!<\/span><\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lareunionenphotos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/7a19e1_30eb884c1ec1471cbb1b94c19881fce8mv2.jpg\" alt=\"Isla Del Sol - Bolivia\"\/><\/figure><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><span>Stop 2: La Paz, Bolivia\u2019s economic capital<\/span><\/span><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\udea0 We only made a short stop in La Paz and didn\u2019t really take the time to visit everything\u2014especially since we both got quite sick and needed to rest\u2026 We did, however, get an aerial view of the city by taking the cable car. We rested for a few days at the <\/span><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hotels.com\/affiliates\/hotel-sagarnaga-la-paz-bolivie.HJwJwtz\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u><span>Sagarnaga Hotel<\/span><\/u><\/a><u><span> <\/span><\/u><span>: it\u2019s ideally located in the city center and is quite comfortable.<\/span><\/span><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><span>Stop 3: Three days in the world\u2019s largest salt desert: Uyuni and South L\u00edpez<\/span><\/span><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\ude8e From La Paz, we left at 9:00 PM by bus to Uyuni and arrived around 6:00 AM. We then headed to the RP Expeditions office\u2014our guide for the adventure that follows! We were able to take a shower, and around 10:00 AM we set off for the world\u2019s largest salt desert!<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>Our group of adventurers included 15 tourists from all over the world, 2 guides, and 3 Bolivian drivers, split across 3 jeeps. We spent three days and two nights in the desert. The accommodation was quite comfortable for this kind of expedition: we slept the first night in a salt lodge, and the second in a large lodge. Both had hot water!<\/span><\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lareunionenphotos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/7a19e1_7265bfe3123b46ffabe4024eff143189mv2.png\" alt=\"Bolivia: Salar de Uyuni &amp; South L&#xED;pez\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><strong><span><span>Day 1<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span><span>: <\/span><\/span><span>the Train Cemetery, the salt village of Colchani, the vast Salar de Uyuni and its hotel made entirely of salt, then Incahuasi Island (the island of giant cacti).<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><strong><span><span>Day 2 <\/span><\/span><\/strong><span><span>:<\/span><\/span><span> the Chiguana Desert, the Andean Lagoons and their hundreds of flamingos, the Siloli Desert\u2014and the Red Lagoon. We loved watching the Milky Way from the hot springs. In the middle of the night, in the middle of the desert, with no light pollution, it was a magical experience!<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><strong><span><span>Day 3:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span><span> <\/span><\/span><span>the Dal\u00ed Desert, the Green Lagoon and the White Lagoon, then back to Uyuni at the end of the day.<\/span><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\udca4 We then took the night bus back to La Paz and left Bolivia for a destination with milder temperatures!<\/span><\/span><\/p><figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bA5raLfYDGg<\/div><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>\ud83d\udc4d A few highlights:<\/span><\/span><\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><p><span><span>The Uyuni Desert was an experience like no other!<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span><span>We also really loved the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca and Isla del Sol.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span><strong><span>Emotional moment: <\/span><\/strong><span>I celebrated my 31st birthday during this Bolivian leg \ud83e\udd72<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span><strong><span>Food moment: <\/span><\/strong><span>we recommend Caf\u00e9 del Mundo in La Paz.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span><strong><span>Nature moment: <\/span><\/strong><span>the three days in the Salar de Uyuni and South L\u00edpez were unforgettable, and very well preserved. <\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span><strong><span>Rest moment:<\/span><\/strong><span> the Sagarnaga Hotel was quite nice and well located.<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><li><p><span><strong><span><span>The <\/span><\/span><\/strong><strong><span>budget moment <\/span><\/strong><span>: Over the full length of our stay, the daily average for our time in Bolivia came to <\/span><strong><span>\u20ac16 per day per person<\/span><\/strong><span>, with the following breakdown by expense category:<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/li><\/ul><figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lareunionenphotos.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/7a19e1_384ca7d3888b4a0683eb610de8a3e5femv2.jpg\" alt=\"Bolivia budget\"\/><\/figure><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>See you soon for new adventures!<\/span><\/span><\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span><span>Bolivia Discovery FAQ: An Unforgettable Trip<\/span><\/span><\/h2><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><strong><span>Q: Which transport company do you recommend for traveling from Cusco to La Paz?<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span><span>A: We highly recommend Peru Hop &#8211; Bolivia Hop.
